How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your ovulation or conception date.
- The calculator shows earliest, average, and latest implantation dates, earliest blood and urine hCG detection, and expected missed period.
- Use the From LMP tab if you know your last menstrual period date.
- Use the From IVF Transfer tab and specify embryo day (3 or 5) for IVF cycles.
Formula
Implantation = Ovulation + 6 to 12 days (avg. 9 DPO)
From LMP: Ovulation = LMP + (cycle length − 14 days)
IVF Day 5: Implantation ≈ transfer + 1-3 days; Beta hCG ≈ transfer + 10 days
Example
Example: Ovulation on June 15. Earliest implantation: June 21 (6 DPO). Average: June 24 (9 DPO). Earliest blood hCG: June 23-25. Missed period: ~June 29 (14 DPO).
Frequently Asked Questions
- Implantation typically occurs between 6 and 12 days post-ovulation (DPO), with the average being around 9 DPO. The implantation window is roughly days 20-24 of a 28-day cycle. Implantation before day 6 or after day 12 post-ovulation is rare.
- Implantation bleeding is light spotting that can occur 10–14 DPO when the fertilized egg burrows into the uterine wall. It typically lasts 1–2 days and is much lighter than a menstrual period. It occurs in an estimated 15-25% of pregnancies.
- hCG enters the bloodstream 8–10 DPO after implantation. Blood tests can detect hCG as early as 8-10 DPO. Urine home tests typically become positive 12-14 DPO (around the day of a missed period). Testing earlier risks a false negative.
- For IVF day-5 blastocyst transfer, implantation occurs approximately 1-3 days post-transfer. The first beta hCG test is typically done 10 days post-5-day transfer (10dp5dt). For day-3 transfers, the timeline is 3 days longer.
- The discriminatory zone is the hCG level above which a gestational sac should be visible on TVUS: approximately 1,500–2,000 mIU/mL. Absence of a sac above this threshold raises concern for ectopic pregnancy.
