Formula

American negative: P = |odds| / (|odds| + 100)
American positive: P = 100 / (odds + 100)
Decimal: P = 1 / decimal odds

Example

−110 → 110/210 = 52.38%. Two sides at −110: overround = 104.76%, vig = 4.76%. Fair prob each side = 52.38/104.76 = 50%.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Implied probability is the win percentage embedded in betting odds. American −110 → 1/1.909 = 52.4%. This means the bookmaker implies a 52.4% chance for each side of an even game, which adds up to 104.8% (the 4.8% is the vig).
  • For negative odds (−110): probability = |odds| / (|odds| + 100) = 110/210 = 52.4%. For positive odds (+150): probability = 100 / (odds + 100) = 100/250 = 40%.
  • The vig (vigorish) is the sportsbook's commission. Standard −110/−110 lines have ~4.76% vig: implied probs sum to 104.76%, meaning the book keeps 4.76 cents of every dollar wagered long-term.
  • No-vig odds remove the bookmaker's markup to show the true market probability. Divide each side's implied probability by the total overround: Fair P1 = Raw P1 / (P1 + P2).
  • Arbitrage (arb) exists when the sum of fair probabilities across all outcomes is less than 100%. You can bet all sides proportionally for a guaranteed profit regardless of outcome.
