Formula
Clothing size conversion uses look-up tables rather than mathematical formulas. Sizes are mapped by standard body measurements (chest in cm for EU, arbitrary letter/number systems for US/UK/JP).
Example
Women's US size 8: US 8 = UK 12 = EU 40 = Japan 13. Men's US 38 chest: US 38 = UK 38 = EU 48. For pants: 32" waist = EU 81cm, belt size US 34".

- For women's tops/dresses: US 0 = EU 32, US 2 = EU 34, US 4 = EU 36, US 6 = EU 38, US 8 = EU 40, US 10 = EU 42, US 12 = EU 44, US 14 = EU 46, US 16 = EU 48. EU sizing is based on bust/chest measurement in centimeters.
- UK women's sizes are 4 numbers higher than US: UK 8 = US 4, UK 10 = US 6, UK 12 = US 8, UK 14 = US 10, UK 16 = US 12. For men's suits and trousers, UK and US sizing is identical.
- Japanese women's sizes use odd numbers: JP 5 = US 0, JP 7 = US 2, JP 9 = US 4, JP 11 = US 6, JP 13 = US 8, JP 15 = US 10. Men's Japanese sizes use letter sizes (S/M/L) but may run smaller than US — check chest measurements.
- EU tops/dresses are based on bust measurement in centimeters. EU 36 = 80cm bust, EU 38 = 84cm, EU 40 = 88cm, EU 42 = 92cm. For pants, EU size = waist in cm. Measure your chest, waist, and hips with a soft tape measure for the most accurate conversion.
- US Women's 8 = UK 12 = EU 40 = Japan 13 (tops/dresses). For men's: a US 40 chest = UK 40 = EU 50. Always check the brand's own size chart as sizing can vary significantly between brands, especially for stretchy fabrics.
