How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your monthly revenue, COGS, and select your Shopify plan.
  2. Processing fees are calculated automatically based on estimated order count.
  3. Use the With Apps tab to add marketing and app expenses.
  4. The Professional tab includes refunds, shipping, and full P&L with annual projection.

Formula

Net Profit = Revenue − COGS − Plan Fee − Processing Fee − Shipping − Apps − Ads − Refunds

Processing Fee = Revenue × Rate% + Orders × $0.30

Example

$10K revenue, $4K COGS, Shopify plan: $10K − $4K − $105 − $290 = ~$5,605 gross before shipping/ads.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Shopify charges a monthly subscription ($39 Basic, $105 Shopify, $399 Advanced) plus payment processing fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction for Basic via Shopify Payments, lower on higher plans). Using third-party payment processors adds an extra 0.5–2% transaction fee.
  • After all fees (COGS, Shopify fees, payment processing, shipping, ads), a healthy Shopify store targets 10–30% net margin. High-volume stores with lower COGS (e.g., dropshipping) often see 5–15%, while private label with strong brand pricing can exceed 30%.
  • Shopify Payments charges 2.9% + $0.30 (Basic), 2.6% + $0.30 (Shopify plan), or 2.4% + $0.30 (Advanced) per transaction. Using PayPal or Stripe instead adds an additional 0.5–2% Shopify transaction fee.
  • Upgrade when the reduction in payment processing fees exceeds the plan cost increase. Moving from Basic to Shopify ($66/mo more) saves 0.3% on processing — so at $22,000+ monthly revenue, the upgrade pays for itself.
