Frequently Asked Questions
- Net income (also called net profit or the "bottom line") is what remains after subtracting all expenses — including COGS, operating costs, interest, and taxes — from total revenue.
- Gross profit = Revenue − COGS. Net income = Gross Profit − Operating Expenses − Interest − Taxes. Net income is the final profitability after all deductions.
- EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) is a measure of operating cash flow. It shows profitability before non-cash charges and financing costs.
- It varies by industry. Retail margins are typically 2–5%, SaaS companies often reach 20–40%, and professional services 10–20%. Compare to industry benchmarks.
- EPS = Net Income ÷ Total Shares Outstanding. It shows how much profit is attributable to each share, and is a key metric for publicly traded companies.
